"What's a MIDI mix"?
MIDI mixes are roughly eight to eleven-minute-long pieces of music composed of recordings made by setting up the various synthesizers and sequencers in the studio at a specific tempo. Each of the seven or so gadgets that make the musical patterns are all playing in sync at the same time. It is our job to not only determine what each of these instruments will be playing, but what combination of them will be heard together at any given time during the mix. These "MIDI mixes" are also set up to sound exactly the same at the end as they are at the very beginning. This is because they are made to be loaded into the digital "DJ" system and are all set to "loop", or repeat.
After they are loaded into the digital laptop system they can then be further mixed/combined with other artists' music, our own tracks, loops, grooves, beats, or even other MIDI mixes.
The tracks featured on this page are the MIDI mixes alone - without being combined with any other elements, but when listening to any of the live mixes posted here on this site, see if you can recognize many of these MIDI mixes present and playing within them. It is a fairly regular practice for us to run a track by another artist, and then cross-fade into one of these MIDI mixes-OR sometimes a MIDI mix will be playing right along at the same time as another entire song or track.
